Exodus 20:12 “Honor your father and mother. Then you will live a long full life in the land the Lord your God will give you.”
This is the first commandment with a promise attached. To live in peace in the promised land, the Israelites would need to respect authority and build strong familes. Honor your parents. Be kind, give them respect, speak well of them, pray for them and wish them well. Even those who may find it difficult to get along with their parents, are still commanded to honor them.
No time in history have the terms relationship & communication been more used and less understood then right now. We are a ‘what’s in it for me? society.’ Our media and schools have been training our children to be selfish and disrespectful. Relationships are becoming more and more meaningless.
Paul the Apostle says children are to obey their parents, period. He doesn’t say obey them when you feel like it. The only time a child can scripturally not obey is if they are asked to commit a sin against God.
It is our responsibility to teach our young children to respect authority and build strong families. Teach them to Honor Thy Father and Mother. I ask you…are you teaching your children to respect you? To honor you?

On a mission trip to The Dominican Republic Yvonne was part of community and medical outreach including working with the disabled at La Casa de Ludy Home. She served on the Monroe Community College Foundation Alumni Council and as Director of The Vineyard Art Show. She lectured for Communication Classes at MCC, is the founder and CEO of Humor Advantage, Incorporated, Humor Advantage Speaker Bureau and Psalm 16:8 Ministries and creator of “Humor Advantage Pay It Forward Program”.
Yvonne is Nonni to three handsome boys and when she isn’t kissing them, she spends her free time pampering Rhododendrons, Azaleas and her 27 Rose of Sharon Trees.
